Why I should read to my child

Reading to your child for 30-45 minutes every day gives them 1000-1500 hours of exposure to the world of books before they begin Kindergarten.  It is one of the most important things you can do as a parent to increase your child’s success in reading!  Click here to learn more about the advantages of reading to your child.

What is Emergent Literacy?

Emergent literacy is the development of a child’s very first reading skills.  They include an understanding of how books work, and a child’s first attempts at reading – which is usually based on looking at the pictures and imaging what story they might be telling.  They also include a child’s first writing which, at first is probably scribbling.  Click here to learn more about Emergent Literacy.
